Ah, horcruxes! Here they are all together.

Life in the world of the Muggles seems to be rather interesting lately. I wish I had magic to fix a "broken" car. It's been over 6 weeks since an inattentive Muggle decided to see how much damage he could cause by hitting my vehicle in the rear. I'm not quite sure how Muggles can put up with insurance companies!! A quick flick of a wand is SO much easier!

A New Book I Want

I just found a book I need..."Elsbeth Lavold Book Eighteen - The Third Book of Viking Knits Collection". I have the first book and like it, but this one I LOVE! I so love cables and the projects in the book are full of them. I also love that the designs reflect my Norwegian/Viking heritage. Must find this book!

If I were going into hiding (because I don't go camping), I would must definitely take the following:

A bag full of books. I always have to have a book with me. I could escape into any storyline and no one would every find me! I can't imagine life without a book to read.
A craft of some sort to keep me amused, be it knitting, cross stitch, scrapbooking or sewing. I love creating things and would want something to keep my hands busy.
A journal. One of the things I enjoy is putting my thoughts down on paper. If I went into hiding, I would want to leave behind the story of my journey.
A camera. I love taking photos to help me enjoy my journeys long after they are over. I would want to keep a pictorial record of my journey though life.
Photos of my family. I would never want to forget the faces of my family members or how they have impacted my life and made me the person I am.

All About Me

It's the start of another season here at HSKS. In an effort to introduce myself to all the newbies...and some of those I haven't seen for a while...here it "All About Me"!

I learned to knit when I was a child but only did it on and off for most of my life. I did a lot of knitting in the early years of my marriage when I was pregnant and living in Tunisia. I knit a lot of baby clothes at that time. For a few years I made sweater vests to wear to work in the winter. Now I have discovered socks and it has re-awakened my interest in knitting. As in most things in life, when I get interested I start to accumululate stash. I am a self-confessed hoarder. My attitude is that I cannot leave this earth until I’ve finished everything I’ve collected!

I was always fascinated when I watched my mother-in-law take wool from the sheep, wash it, comb it, card it, and use a drop spindle to spin it. I have a blanket she made for my son out of the yarn she prepared. The love that went into that blanket can't be matched!

Here are some things that might be helpful to know about me:

Yarns: I love yarns that are muticolored, which is probably why I like sock yarns. I’m not much of a solid color person unless it is a tweed/heather type yarn. I like variety (or is it chaos) in everything! My favorite combinations are “peacock” colors and “autumn” colors…or shades of purples, shades of blues, shades of whatever! I don’t think I have any particular favorite brands, but I enjoy working with Ella Rae, Noro, Fleece Artist, Frog Tree, Berroco, Misty Alpaca. I also love to get my yarns from indie dyers. They usually have such interesting color combinations. I'm also in total love with Malabrigo!

Patterns: I really enjoy felting so I am always on the lookout for felting patterns. I make a whole lot of socks so sock patterns are always good. I love, love, love cables, so anything with cables is fun. I am also starting to get interested in lace so I'm always looking at great lace shawls.

Yarn Weight Preference: I use mostly fingering, sport, DK and worsted weight yarns.

Fiber Dislikes: I don’t like anything scratchy. I can’t stand the feel of mohair. I also don’t like most acrylics unless they are very soft. I also don’t like most novelty yarns.

Favorite Projects: I love making socks. I also like making felted bags, sweaters, and scarves, particularly if they involve cables!

Things I Like But Don’t Make For Myself: I love fingerless mitts , but don’t particularly like making them for myself.

Favorite Gadgets: I collect stitch markers of all kinds. I have a large decorated box filled with them and I love taking them out and looking at them. Of course, I also love using them! I love handmade project bags, tape measures, needle holders, organizers. I also collect 4” scissors and scissor fobs.

Other Interests: Besides knitting, I am an addicted to counted cross stitch. Again, I love working with varigated fibers. I would consider myself an advanced stitcher, as I am not afraid to tackle most any cross stitch chart. I particularly love samplers. I also do hardanger.

I love movies, mainly drama or anything historical or Disney. I’m not necessarily a fan of “stupid” comedy, as I like to call it. I like intelligent comedy, not slapstick, and my favorite comedian is, without a doubt, Eddie Izzard.

I read every day. Besides Harry Potter, I love historical novels, particularly anything taking place during the Tudor or Renaissance ages. Some of my favorite authors are Phillipa Gregory, Diana Gabaldon, Christopher Moore, Gregory MacGuire. I recently discovered the Tuesday Next series by Jasper Fforde which I so love. I also really enjoy Young Adult fiction, like the Gemma Doyle trilogy.

I love history, both reading about it, learning about it, and exploring it. I particularly like women’s history, i.e., how they lived, loved and learned.

I collect anything Disney (particularly the villians or Tinker Bell), witches, Precious Moments, stitch markers and books.

I love Yankee Candles, particularly anything spicy and some of the florals. I love all the little candle holders they have as well. I burn my candles daily.

I am interested in tarot and astrology. I have several tarot decks and, while I’m far from an expert, I love consulting the cards. I believe in spirt guides, guardian angels, and past lives.

I love to travel and would get on a plane every weekend if I could. Currently (besides California) my favorite place to wander and roam is Scotland. It feels so like a comfortable fit to me when I’m there. The next countries I want to discover are Ireland, England and Norway.

I have been involved in family research and genealogy for several years and have made some wonderful discoveries and have met distant relatives. My heritage is 75% Norwegian and 25% Irish.

Salty vs. Sweet: I prefer salty over sweet. I am totally addicted to popcorn and could eat it virtually every day. I am not a big fan of chocolate, unless it’s very expensive chocolate. I am much more into hard candies, particularly clove, cinnamon, ginger, peppermint, anything lemon or lime. I don’t like most things orange flavored and am not a particular fan of cherry.

Favorite Scents: Lilac, jasmine, clove, cinnamon, coffee

Favorite Holidays: Halloween and all that goes along with it. Christmas follows close behind. I love decorating in and around my house for both holidays.

Wingo Clues

Since we're playing Wingo this week, I thought it would be a good time to drop some clues about me!

I have been on a train. I traveled to and from Edinburgh, Scotland to Linlithgow, Sterling and Glasgow.
I have seen every Harry Potter film in the theatre...added bonus, I've seen them all on opening day!
I have 2 siblings, a brother and a sister. Additionally, I have 4 step-siblings.
I have several collections...Precious Moments, books, Disney Vinylmations, Dept. 56 North Pole Village, to name a few.
I've been to more castles than I can remember, i.e., Edinburgh Castle, Sterling Castle, Fraser Castle, Linlithgow Castle, etc. I belong to Historic Scotland so I like to go to as many castles as possible.
I own all the Harry Potter movies.
I have been in HSKS since the 3rd term.
My birth month is July.
I have been on a multi-day camping trip to Yellowstone and to Girl Scout Camp.
One of my favorite brands of yarn is Noro. Another is Mysti Alpaca.
I love hard candies, particularly anything black currant, clove, lemon, cinnamon.

Summer Camp

Wow! It's certainly been a while since I've posted anything to my blog. The last term at Hogwarts kept me pretty darn busy. I am now really ready for a relaxing time at Summer Camp. I love living in a treehouse where the breezes can blow through the branches and the wee birds can sing me to sleep and chirp a gentle good morning. Of course, it's fun to watch the gently waving peacock feathers that surround my hammock.

I am very excited to be spoiling Genevra Dreamy. I didn't get a chance to get to know her at Hogwarts since there were so many students running around the halls. Hopefully we can spend some time around the campfire getting to know each other this time.

And, to help out my wonderful spoiler, here is some updated info on me!

This is my 6th go around in this wonderful world of wizards. During each of those terms I have made so many new friends. I was thinking today what my life would be like if I had never discovered HSKS and never got to know so many great people. I am a firm believer that people come into our lives and exit our lives for reasons. I believe that I learn something from each and every person with whom I come in contact. Today I was thinking about how much I miss many of the people who have moved on to other things. They may no longer be part of my life, but I still miss them.

I am thankful for all these people and all I have learned from them. I hope that I can stay in touch with as many of these awesome people as possible and that our friendships can continue to grow.

Being Thanksful

It's very quiet around the Quidditch pitch this morning. The sun is barely above the horizon on its journey of the day. The grass is moist with dew. There is the smell of damp earth and early morning. The birds are singing a soft chorus to welcome the day.

These are just a few of the things I'm most thankful for.

Inside there is the sound of soft breaking from my sleeping family. Today will be a busy day of family activities, with family coming from near and far. There will be the bustle of activity in the kitchen as our early Thanksgiving dinner cooks. There will be the laughter of family and friends. There will be sporting matches to watch and games to play.

These are a few more of the things I am most thankful for.

And there are all my Hogwarts and Quidditch friends to greet at the start of a new week...friends, both new and old, whom I treasure and admire and learn much from.

I am thankful you each and every one of you. May you all be blessed with love and laughter.

I have found a wonderful new fiber that I love working with. Why have I not tried this fiber before?! I can't say more because I'm using this yummy fiber for my spoilee's kit and I don't want her getting too much information. I'm about half done with the handmade item for her kit. Hopefully I'll be able to get it finished this coming weekend...before I go to the Muggle football game. I'll be wearing my purple and gold proudly!

What a crazy few weeks I've had! I didn't realize just how looney the Full Moon can make people, but I experienced it all this week! I was contacted by people I haven't heard from in ages. I had people showing up that I didn't expect. It never seemed to quit. I would fall into bed at night exhausted.

I'm really in the mood to go down to Diagon Alley and checking out all the newest yarn, but I quite honestly don't need ANY more yarn! Aren't 3 bins enough?! I do have some on order for my spoilee's special handmade item. I can't wait to get it!! I did lots and lots of shopping until I found what was JUST PERFECT. With the cooler weather, I enjoy sitting cuddled up in the evening knitting away.

And A New Quidditch Season Begins

I can't believe that summer is over and we are back into the routine of things. Siobhan and I were quite surprised to receive notice that Miss Wartbobble would be taking a sabbatical this term. She wasn't very forthcoming about where she was going or what she would be doing, but she did say we'd hear from her.

That meant Siobhan and I had a lot of work to do before the Quidditch season began. I have discovered a wonderful Muggle beverage called an energy drink, and have consumed my fair share!

All the captains and assistant captains have been busy ordering and distributing team jerseys, handling try outs for positions, and generally working to get our players in shape for the first match. I have been spending some time getting reacquainted with old friends and making new ones. Here are some of the things I have discovered:

1. There are quite a few people who enjoy some of the same crafts as me. For instance, Stuart Cauldwell likes to knit, Quietus likes to make costumes, Emma Gorodok enjoys scrapbooking and Bridget the Bloodthirsty likes anything Disney.

2. Fleur Sweeting's birthday is in the same month as me...July.

3. Maisy Muddlestix is from Australia.

4. Celeena Cree is a new Quidditch player. (Welcome Celeena!)

5. Antonio delay Weasley has been around for many, many Quidditch seasons...even more than me!

6. Rowan Dragonsinger thinks she may have a larger stash of yarn that I do, but I doubt it.

7. Agatha Vablatsky both knits and crochets. I feel like such a dummy next to her.

8. Lily May Clearwater and I like the same colors, blues, greens and purples. Wonder if she likes peacocks?

Oh well...back to practice!

Here is just a wee taste of the super awesome kit I received from Clara Clovenhoof. First of all there is this wonderful wooden box. I SO love boxes and this one is incredible. It will definitely be used to hold my treasures!

Inside the box are 5 skeins of Knits Picks Stroll yarn in Sappphire Heather and Duchess Heather to be used to knit Norwegian stockings!! I can't wait to give it a shot!! I have very proud of my Norwegian heritage and these socks will definitely be lovingly knit with all my ancestors in mind. Clara knit me the cutest little witch and an adorable little owl...both wearing Ravenclaw scarves! My little owl will be looking over my shoulder whenever I knit or cross stitch. Halloween is my favorite holiday so the witch will have a place of honor! I also received two coffe mug cozies (since we all know I'm addicted to caffeine!), a wire and charm bookmark, a knit Ravenclaw bookmark, peacock charms, and an awesome see bead necklace. Clara also gave me two other sock patterns, a graph notebook for designing my own patterns, and the book Folk Socks by Nancy Bush. I love the book!! There is so much history in it, which I love.

Finally, Clara gave me some beautiful peacock stitchmarkers and an absolutely gorgeous peacock pendnt necklace!! My mouth dropped open when I saw the necklace because I saw a necklace with the same pendant at an arts and crafts faif last weekend. I wanted that necklace SOOOOOOOOO much....and now I have it!! Thank you dear, dear Clara!!

And last of all is a green hissee fit snake!! Clara just had to remind me that she's a Slytherin (but I actually think she's too nice! She must be a Ravenclaw at heart.)

A Week of Relaxation and...

I will be away from camp all next week. It's been very draining trying to avoid my awful cousin Thistle. I am always looking over my shoulder, and checking in my cot before climbing in, and worrying about everything I eat or drink. So a friend and I will be spending the week at a beautiful lake retreat where we can spending quiet time together, practicing our arts and learned new skills.

Hopefully I will return relaxed and refreshed and ready to take on anything Thistle can throw my way!

A Trip to Whimsic Alley

A few weeks ago Winnie, Bevin Rae and I made a trip to Whimsic Alley. We decided we were running low on supplies for Summer Camp and Hogwarts. It's never too late to plan for the next term! We stacked up on quills and parchment..along with some polyjuice potion, dragon's eggs, and crystalized pineapple. Whimsic Alley isn't quite as well stocked as the shops in Diagon Alley; it's kind of the 7-11 of wizarding shops!

We shopped so long that we just HAD to stop off for some food and beverage. Several hours later, we decided it was time to get back to Summer Camp. Wonder if anyone missed us?

Never Allow Your Cousin To Go To Camp With You!

I came back from a long walk around the lake with Counselor Whitmarsh only to discover that my cabin had been attacked by flamingos. At first I was confused. Why would anyone put flamingos around my cabin? Who could be so mean.

Then, of course it dawned on me!

There is only one person deranged enough to do such a thing...nasty prickly Thistle Lovegood! I immediately sent my wee owl Paisley home to tell Mummy and Daddy about Thistle. I hope they will finally be able to do something to protect me from Thistle.

Getting Reacquainted

It was initially quite a shock to me to see Lucius Whitmarsh walk into Summer Camp. I had never expected to see him again after he so mysteriously disappeared from Hogwarts. I had prepared the cabin for the new DADA counselor thinking I would be greeting and initiating someone totally new to HSKS.

I spent last weekend in deep discussions with Lucius, working through the reasons for his departure and I think we've come to a place of peace. He was very upset that his reputation had been besmirched and that his reputation in the wizarding community had suffered. Years of study have taught Counselor Whitmarsh more ways to bend an enemy to his desires than any Slytherin could dream off. He had intended to come back and make life miserable for those he blamed for his fall from grace. He had spent many months plotting to take back all that was rightfully his. His plan was that the puppet would become the puppet master! However, when our eyes met once again, all was forgotten. Life is so LUSCIOUS!

Summer Camp Game #3 - Riddikulus

I hate to admit it, but I have a fear of heights. Unfortunately my caring cousin, Thistle, is aware of it and she goes out of her way to make sure I get stuck in high places. Do you know how many times she has lured my wee Paisley to the top of a tree or tower and trapped him there, only to force me to rescue him?

But, I've learned to overcome my fear!

WEEK 2 CAMP GAME

In the second volume of the HP books by JK Rowling, The CHAMBER OF SECRETS, we continue to learn the incredible adventures of Hogwarts student HARRY POTTER and his friends RON WEASLEY and HERMOINE GRANGER. Belonging to the house of GRYFFINDOR, they attend Defense Against the DARK ARTs taught by Wizarding celebrity GILDEROY LOCKHART, a none-too-bright fellow who cannot even handle pixies!

In The CHAMBER OF SECRETS, we also meet Dobby a HOUSE ELF for the first time. Determined Dobby seeks to sabotage the return of HARRY POTTER to Hogwarts and is pretty persistent but is unsuccessful. After a few weeks at school, the deceased Ravenclaw student who haunts the girls lavatory, also known as MOANING MYRTLE, shows HARRY POTTER and RON WEASLEY an old empty diary that dropped through her ghostly form out of thin air!

Many nifty things continue to happen for the next several months… we won’t go into all the juicy details right now… however, the ending is prime reading indeed!! HARRY POTTER finally kills Tom Riddle’s (a.k.a. VOLDEMORT) sneaky diary (which we now know is a HORCRUX) and saves the sister of RON WEASLEY, GINNY WEASLEY!!!

Oh! Of course, we must mention that the thickheaded GILDEROY LOCKHART unintentionally erased his own memory, so he won’t be back for book three, The PRISONER OF AZKABAN...

THISTLE!!!!

Some pixies were trying to make a nest under my bed using the new yarn Mummy gave me before I left for cabin. Oh...that Thistle! I know it was her. I'm dispatching an owl to Mummy and Daddy immediately. I think I will finally get up the nerve to go talk with our "new" DADA counselor. At least we'll have something to talk about instead of.... Oh, never mind! Something has to be done about Thistle.

Guessing Lies

This has been a tough one and here are a few of my guesses:

Bevin Rae Mooney: I KNOW this one for a fact! Her lie is that she can't live without her morning coffee. She doesn't drink coffee!

Hermoine Bagnold: I'm guessing that #1 is a lie, i.e., that her natural hair color is blonde.

Antonio dela Weasley: By process of elimination, I say the lie is that he's never traveled outside the US.

Fleur Dolohov: Just a guess...the lie is that she collect Goofy.

Clara Clovenhoof: I think that #4 is the lie. I am guessing that she actually has an older sister and younger brother, not the other way around.

Lily May Clearwater: This one is very tough. I'm tied between 2 possible lies. I think I'll go with #2, that she does cake decorating in her spare time. I want to believe she knits in her spare time!

Phelicia Phoenixfire: I'm guessing nectarines are not her favorite fruit.

I am finally somewhat settled in at Summer Camp. I'm so grateful that Miss Wartbobble didn't put Thistle in my cabin. I'm not sure I would have survived! At least now I can take time to get to know the others in my cabin. I've seen some of them at Hogwarts during regular term, but it's not always easy to get to know those in other Houses. Ravenclaw keeps me pretty busy.

Summer Camp

As I was putting the last necessry items in my trunk in preparation for returning home to the enchanted moors, a wee exhausted owl flew in and dropped a letter from my parents on my bed. Poor little Edbert was exhausted from flying so quickly and so frantically!

The bad news.........it seems Thistle, my third cousin, twice removed on my father's side, will be attending summer camp with me. I am dreading it already! She is so totally a "thorn in my side". I am already envisioning bugs in my hair, snakes in my bed, exploding potions. She is most definitely from the outcast, black sheep side of the Lovegood family. I'm just not looking forward to this experience!

My Wacky Weekend

I have to tell you about the DRENCHED time I had in Diagon Alley last weekend! My friend MEGAERA BLACK and I decided that we really needed some new STITCHMARKERS and had to get over to Diagon Alley immediately. MEGAERA BLACK put on her CHASTITY BELT because it was REMOTE and did not want to get a cold. I grabbed my INSURANCE CARD and we headed to the trains.

While waiting for our train to Diagon Alley, we chatted with HEXY ELFSHIMMER and WINIFRED HORNSWAGGLE who were planning to visit Gringott’s. WINIFRED HORNSWAGGLE did not want to go alone because she was collecting a WASP and that was very INTIMATE and brought HEXY ELFSHIMMER along for her excellence in protecting spells.

The train arrived and off we went. Our seats were very comfortable and the train sped along towards Diagon Alley and we were there in a flash! Before heading to the Yrsa’s Yarn Shoppe, we went into a RUNE that sells the PRECISION OYSTERS!!! As we neared the RUNE, we noticed quite a lot of commotion! The rune owner had set the OYSTER-making machine and it had gotten stuck! OYSTERS were SPARKING everywhere! I ducked as a cream-filled OYSTER came SPARKLING right at me and it CONTAMINATED into Professor BATHSHEBA BABBLING’s CORSET just as they walked through the door! A CLOVE OYSTER did a nose dive and splattered all over the LEFT CORNER most elaborately! We made it out of the store just as a OYSTER frog and a kettle of Bertie Bott’s every flavor beans collided in a rainstorm of goo!

Since we were still RUSTY, we walked the 207 blocks over to Florean Fortescue’s Ice Cream Parlor! I decided on a cone with BITTER ALMOND ice cream and MEGAERA BLACK got the hot fudge sundae with extra DEVONSHIRE CREME! Yummy! Professor BATHSHEBA BABBLING had made her way over here as well after the incident at the OYSTER shoppe and had chosen a MEAD float.

After that, we passed Gringott’s and headed to Yrsa’s Yarn Shoppe! I tried not to look at the beautiful skeins of silk and bamboo and wool and instead, headed toward the STITCH MARKERS while MEGARA BLACK stopped to STRANGLE the stitch markers. I found a MICROSCOPIC STITCH MARKER made out of steel and made my purchase. MEGAERA BLACK kept hedging between the STITCHMARKER she came for and a pattern for a AFGHAN. She chose the AFGHAN pattern and we walked back towards the train station just in time to make the 12:30 train.

After sitting down, we noticed HEXY ELFSHIMMER and WINIFRED HORNSWAGGLE were on the train as well. WINIFRED HORNSWAGGLE looked quite WOODGRILLED to have the WASP with them. HEXY ELFSHIMMER however did not look WOODGRILLED at all. While waiting to go into the vault, a baby goblin waiting in line with his Mommy, had PHOTOGRAPHED HEXY ELFSHIMMER getting TUNA NOODLE CASSEROLE all over her clean robes! The smell really was just horrendous! Apparently, HEXY ELFSHIMMER’s protecting spells don’t work well against TUNA NOODLE CASSEROLE!! We made our way to a less smelly compartment and talked about how we were going explain missing Professor AURORA SINISTRA’s lecture on the valuable ways AQUAVIRIUS MAGGOTS are working with the Department of Mysteries in solving unsolvable HOOTERS!

An Owl Brought Me A Gift!

At the end of a very long busy week, I was most pleasantly surprised to arrive back at my dorm room to find a wee owl sitting on the top of the pillar at the corner of my bed, but I'm afraid I startled her when I saw the package laying on my bed. I received a most wonderful kit from Clara Clearwater of Gryffindor House. After I fed, comforted and sent Ava on her way, I carefully opened the kit. Here is what first appeared to my anxious eyes! Lots of pretty blue paper!

Look at all the marvelous goodies Clara sent me!! There were two wonderful books from the wish list I keep in my head -- The Magic Loop and Socks Soar on Two Circular Needles. I love making socks and have been curious about both these methods of sock knitting. Clara obviously knows I love purple because she gave me two skeins of Gloss yarn from Knit Picks in Cosmos color. She also gave me some merino fingering weight in "out of smoke" colorway from welovethor.etsy.com...SO BEAUTIFUL...plus two mini-skeins in "athabasca" and "black plums". I will have to check out what else this merchant has to offer! Clara included a circular sz 1 knitting needle from Knit Picks which, I'm guessing, she thinks I should use when I attempt this Magic Loop! There was also a package of Orange and Lemon candies which, I must admit, I am savoring!

And then there is the bag!! LOOK AT THIS BAG!! I so love it, Clara!! It's fabric with a felt handle and bottom. The size is PERFECT for my use. It's definitely going with me to work this year. It will be great to take outdoors for knitting during my lunch hour. I really can't tell you how great this bag is!

As if that wasn't enough, Clara threw in a scrabble piece necklace with Tinkerbell AND a pin with Eddie Izzard! I can definitely tell that Clara spent some time stalking me because she certainly discovered how to make me smile!

Muggle Medical Procedures

This morning I experienced a Muggle medical procedure called an MRI. I don't know why Muggles have to be subjected to such things. I had to lay flat on my back with my leg strapped into a contraption while a machine thumped and knocked and whirled for minutes on end. I could feel strange sensations in my leg and a tingly feeling in my toes. I layed there for over 30 minutes, not moving. Me...NOT MOVING!! For several hours afterwards my legs ached. I don't know if that was because of the "Muggle Magic" or because I found my muscles contracting. Oh well...it's over now and I'm back in my cozy dorm room with Druscilla, my little dragon. (Don't tell Hagrid I've got her in my dorm room!!)

Sneaking Off to Diagon Alley

A couple weekends ago Elanor Cadogan, Waverly Trimble and I decided we NEEDED to get away and make a trip to Diagon Alley. We quietly slipped out of Hogwarts early in the morning and made our way to a yarn shop called Yarn Garage. It's such a riot of color and texture...like an explosion in a yarn factory. The aisles are barely wide enough to walk through without knocking something over. We had to get down on our knees to check out some of the funky fibers and just admire all the stuff piled high above our heads. One fun thing about the shop is all the knit models hanging around the shop that we could try on to see how they look.

I did find some fantastic glittery peacock yarn that I just had to have! It didn't photograph well...too blue...but it is wonderful. I have no idea what I will do with that yarn, but it will be something special.

After we finished shopping we made our way to the pub for some fish 'n' chips, bangars and mash and just a few pints of butterbeer! We were almost able to walk a straight line when we got back to Hogwarts.

Visit to Hogsmeade

This evening I made a trip to Hogsmeade. It wasn't an official Hogsmeade weekend so Miss Wartbobble suggested I be accompanied by a member of the faculty. Professor Solem volunteered to to be my chaperone, which I thought was very kind.

I was meeting a cousin whom I haven't seen in many years. He was seriously injured 3 years ago when an accident occurred in Potions class and a wall fell on him, breaking his neck. In spite of all Madam Pomprey's best efforts, he is now paralyzed from his chest down but in such good spirits. It was wonderful seeing him and sharing a few butterbeers with him.

Professor Solem and I then strolled leisurely back to Hogswart discussing the upcoming Quidditch match against Ballycastle Bats. We totally lost track of time and found the doors to Hogwart locked when we returned. Professor Solem, fortunately, was able to work his magic and got he door open. We said good nite and I quietly tiptoed up the moving staircase. Fortunately Knitsy was waiting for me in the Ravenclaw common room. What would I do without her?

New Technique

I decided to try something new yesterday. So I pulled Minee's cauldrons out of storge and conjured up a mixture of strong tea and strong coffee....(after saving a cup or two for me) and soaked some fine linen fabric in it, pulling it out and wadding it up again and again. I then put it on a baking sheet...wadding it up...and baked it in the oven for 15 minutes, basting it occasionally and re-arranging it on the cookie sheet. I then used a hot iron to set the color. It turned out quite interesting..some spots are much darker than I would have liked, but for a first attempt at dying my own fabric, it was fun. I will definitely find something to cross stitch on it.

Now, I wonder how kool aid or other fun dyes would work. I see a BIG mess coming......

The shadows lengthened as the lonely witch waited in the graveyard to make her connection. Where was he? He couldn't have forgotten about her, could he? The shiver of cold slithered down her back and her heart jumped to her throat as she spotted someone in the distance. Was that him? She had never met him before, but hoped it was her contact. If she were to be caught by Ministry officials with this in her possession, it could mean real trouble for her whole family! Impatient and fearful, the stranger approached too fast, but too slow all at once. "How did I get myself into this?" she muttered under her breath. The faces flitted though her mind of those that coerced her into submission, Dirty Diaper, Poopy Pants and Dingleberry, the other members of her rock band Butt Cheese. Why had she drawn the short straw? Why did she have to go into this dark unfamiliar place to turn over the 84 song endless play set to an unfamilar man in exchange for headline billing? Was winning the World Wide Wizard's Music Competition really worth jeopardizing herself and ending her career as a musician?

She pulled her cloak further over her head, staying in the shadows of the tall headstones and watched the tall silhouette approach. She could hear her knees knocking and her legs starting to buckle. The stranger stopped suddenly and quickly looked from side to side. She saw movement to her right and then to her left. What should she do? Had she been found out? Should she use her invisibility cloak and flee? Her mouth was dry and her breath was coming fast and furious. She started backing up slowly when she felt a hand on her shoulder. She spun around and a scream exploded from her. She was surrounded by a circle of dark shapes all holding candles. She knew it was over...all she had dreamed of was gone and she would be forever a disgrace to her family. As she raised her teary eyes resigned to her fate, the dark shapes threw back their hoods and in unison yelled....

Recovery from Research

I cannot believe it has taken me almost a whole week to recover from my *research* weekend! I was so very exhausted and just a wee bit bruised. I learned never to take a fast wild broom ride after dark through a thick forest! I had to keep my eyes closed while holding my breath and with a tight TIGHT grip on my companion. I thought I quite accomplished when it came to broom flight. Boy, do I have things to learn! Also, when one falls off a broom, be prepared to get a few bumps and bruises. Of course, as my mother always says, kisses do help boo-boos.

I was so thrilled to return to Hogwarts and see that our House captured the snitch. Allitrya, your flying and ability to hone in on that little golden bird, amazes me. And the teamwork in Ravenclaw is, without a doubt, to be envied! If only Muggles knew about the excitement of Quidditch. They would probably never again watch silly games where they walk around merely hitting a small ball into a hole. Doesn't sound exciting to me in comparison to Quidditch!

Now, I'm off to finish that homework. I really don't want to get detention for slacking off.....or do I??

I had such a wonderful, relaxing weekend. After all the excitement of the start of the term, plus the upcoming Quidditch match and Hogsmeade weekend, I felt the need to go for a long walk. I initially thought of just walking around the lake, but Knitsy encouraged me to walk in the Forbidden Forest instead. It was so peaceful and quiet, a little brisk but after a while I could feel my temperature rising.

It's now time to call it a day. I think I'll go to bed and read some poetry.

What a Surprise!

I was feeling so down in the dumps yesterday. I just stayed in my room, cuddling in my big bed, hugging a purple pillow. I know I'll be in trouble for missing my classes, but I'll worry about the detention later. Besides, detention isn't always bad now, is it?

While I was laying there staring out the window at the bare tree branches, there was a tiny knock at my door. I ignored it, but the door slowly creaked open and dear Knitsy poked her head through the door. She was wearing a very cute pink hat someone had knit for her. She does like her hats! Anyway, she brought me a warm cuppa sweet herbal tea and a wee heart-shaped tart beautifully frosted in pink with white lacy piping. It was almost too beautiful to eat, but Knitsy insisted I eat it. And I must say I savored every crumb of that tart. It was amazing!! I asked Knitsy where it came from, but she just smiled her shy little smile, lowered her eyes, and giggled. She wouldn't even give me a clue!! That little elf sure knows how to keep a secret. I'm sure that tart was enchanted in some way because I certainly feel much better today. Now, to find out who sent me the tart!!

Blue (and Purple)

I'm feeling a wee bit blue today and am just hiding out in my dorm room, skipping classes. I don't feel like being social and putting on a fake smile. I can't tell you why I'm blue, but something doesn't seem right...something is off kilter. There is a sense of dread surrounding me. Hopefully a few hours alone and a good cry will make it feel better.

My First Week Back

What a week! I am almost dizzy (or dizzier than usual) with all the activity around Hogwarts. It is so wonderful to see all my friends return to Ravenclaw, but it was also sad to see the empty beds in my dorm room. Poor Minee wasn't able to return to Hogwarts this year following her serious Quidditch injury at the end of last term. It's not pretty when brooms collide. She is now home recovering under the love and care of her parents. Hopefully she'll be able to return to Hogwarts later. The Ravenclaw Common Room isn't the same without her. And Crystal moved to Hufflepuff, so there are no more cauldrons of all colors in my room. It seems so drab and empty without all those cauldrons and yarn drapped everywhere. I guess I'll have to get Knitsy to help me fill those spaces with more peacock feathers, or at least peacock colored things and trinkets.

We do have one first year in Ravenclaw this year, Cassandra Goode, and I'm hoping that she will feel welcome in Ravenclaw. I must remind Knitsy to help Cass get settled.

I am having a wonderful time helping Professor Solum settle in. He's so quiet, but quite a gentle man. Late one afternoon I decided to take a walk around the grounds of Hogwarts to get away from the endless din and activity. I needed some quiet time. While strolling across the lush lawn, I happened to spy Professor Solum sitting in a tree gazing off over the lake.

I wasn't sure if I should approach him or not, but when has that stopped me?? We shared some pumpkin juice and had a nice talk. I know this term will be exciting! I can't wait to show him around Hogsmeade.

A New Term Begins....

I am so excited about the start of a new term and getting back together with my friends, both old and new. This break has been so long. I am famished for gossp!

Oh..I met the new DADA Professor today. I think he's the best we've had yet!! Professor Fervens Solum...sigh. I spent most of my day today helping him carry in books and crates and bottles and mysterious boxes. There were some strange sounds coming from some of those boxes. At the end of the day, I think he's starting to get settled in. It was too cold to take him of a tour of the Forbidden Forest; that will have to wait for a warmer day. I did take him to the dungeon before the Slyterins started arriving. I didn't want to scare him away before the term has even started!

I KNOW I'm going to like this term! Now, to send my cute little Paisley off to find some nice warming beverages!

My Kit Arrived!!

My kit from Rowena Weasley arrived earlier this week. Poor little owl almost froze his tail feathers! I wasn't able to post photos because (1) I couldn't find the cable for my camera and no spells were helping me out; and (2) when I found the cable, Blogger wouldn't cooperate! I think I probably stamped my feet and screamed loud enough that the sleeping Blogger woke up. So...here's my kit! I've never tried dyeing so this will definitely be an adventure. I hope my potions knowledge is up to the challenge!

Rowena made an absolutely adorable Snitch tape measure for me. Isn't it cute? I'm going to love using it. She also gave me some beautiful tile stitch markers. I so love them. I'm sure everyone knows I collect stitch markers and these are such a welcome addition. I'm not sure if she made them or not, but they are gorgeous.

Rowena also gave me 2 skeins of worsted weight Knit Picks Bare and a Sock Dye Blank. I'm fascinated by the sock blanks so this should be fun. She also gave me Kool Aid in orange, black cherry and grape, as well as Jacquard dye in sapphire blue. I'd like to jump right into attempting to dye, but I better wait until after the holidays when Elanor Cadogan can help me. Finally I got another tape measure and several patterns and instructions for dyeing.

Missing Roommate

When I returned to my dorm room after a very long day at classes, I discovered Minee's cauldrons empty. It was way too quiet in our room. I asked Chrysta and Cassandra if they had seen Minee, but they said no. I checked the Common Room, but no Minee. I checked the owlery...no Minee. I checked the Great Hall and the Room of Requirement...no Minee. I was indeed puzzled. I finally ran into Emma and she said Minee was in the infirmary...something about a broom accident. I flew to the infirmary and found her asleep. Poor Minee! She's kind of bumped and bruised, but is in good hands. I miss having her in our dorm room.

WhileMinee is healing, Bevin Rae Mooney will be helping me with Ravenclaw matters. I was able to bribe her with promises of pretty yarn!

It's almost Halloween, my favorite time of the year. My little owl Paisley delivered a few photos from home of a little Lovegood in her Halloween costume. She's wearing Sharpay's prom dress from High School Musical 3. Isn't she cute!

Dueling Dishcloths

I just wish we hadn't been tricked into this duel. Someone ~ or several someones ~ tried to set us against each other and destroy our friendship for defarious reasons. STRANGE DOINGS

Now that Lavender and I have completed our duel (and I won..hee hee), I feel badly. I tearfully discussed the whole situation with Professor Whitmarsh and, after gently wiping my tears, he explained to me that he and Lavender were truthfully only discussing games. Well, that made me feel even worse. I really regretted dying her robes pink, but I honestly did nothing more than that. I had nothing to do with her billywig poisoning. I wouldn't do that! Lavender and I may be competitors, but she is also a good friend and I wouldn't want to cause her harm.

Also, I didn't change anyone's grades. When I arrived at Professor Whitmarsh's usually very neat and organized office, I discovered the parchments hanging out of their cubby holes. It struck me as very odd and I tried to put them back. It was after some fell that I saw that it appeared grades had been changed. I tried to rectify that, not change them! I then put them back in their neat little niches.

I now remember one very strange thing. As I was leaving the office, I saw a wee ball of green and silver yarn behind a leg of the desk. I wonder if someone had been there before me? I wonder if someone else changed those grades. Does sound like something a Slytherin would do, doesn't it? But who would be out to cause "issues" between me and Lavender? I think I will have to treat Lavender to a trip to Hogsmeade and maybe we can figure this out.

Accidents Happen

One recent beautiful evening, I was giving Professor Whitmarsh a tour of the Hogwarts grounds. It was so beautiful and peaceful down around the lake at sunset. The sight of multicolored swans gliding along in pairs with their graceful necks entertwined was very romantic. Somehow along the way, my foot because tangled in something and I ended up with a broken bone. Professor Whitmarsh was very concerned and helped me back to the infirmary where put me in the care of Emma Wigworthy.

After leaving the infirmary, I wanted to let Professor Whitmarsh know that the break wasn't severe when I saw that Lavender Ackerly had cornered him and was talking his ear off. Being the considerate person he is, he was smiling and nodding his head as Lavender continued to talk and retain him. As I turned to leave, I saw Lavender's robe on the floor so I picked it up and saw that someone had stepped on it and left quite a muddy footprint. I hobbled back to my dorm room where, unfortunately, I tripped and fell into a few of Minee's cauldrons of dye. There was quite a colorful pool of liquid on the floor and, not thinking, I threw Lavender's robe on top of the dye to prevent it from spreadding to my peacock feathers. I must say that Lavender's robe was much improved with the tie-dyed effect...love that florescent pink!

I thought I should probably make good use of my time so I went to Professor Whitmarsh's office to wait for him. I was hoping that he had finally escaped from the trap set by Lavender A. I started straightening up the office and saw that the doors to the cupboards containing cubby holes filled with parchments was open and a few parchments were falling out. I slowly climbed up the ladder to put the parchments back. I was certainly surprised to see that the parchments contained the grades of all the DADA students. A couple parchments fell to Professor Whitmarsh's desk and were smudged. I tried to re-write those grades but Lucious's...er...Lucius's handwriting is sometimes very hard to read. I sure hope I didn't screw up anyone's grade.

A New Term at Hogwarts

I'm so excited for the start of a new term at Hogwarts! There is so much activity around Ravenclaw Tower. There are first years dragging trunks up and down stairways looking totally baffled and lost. I do hope that the Slytherins can control themselves and not direct all these poor new students in the wrong directions. It was sad to see wide eyed first years terrified and stranded on the moving staircases last term. Let's hope they can all make it safely to their dorms without being permanently scarred!

Of course, I've been busy readying the Common Room. We have a new House Elf this term. Hopefully by the end of the week we'll know her name.

Oh..I see the new DADA Professor arriving! I'm off to welcome him as only I can do!

I couldn't resist! Instead of going on holiday or visiting my family during the term break at Hogwarts, I decided to take on summer job. Yes, I'm the Ravenclaw Prefect at HSS4. I know, I know, I should be resting and recharging, but it's so much fun to make socks for other people. I have a great partner and she has definitely been teasing me. I'm having such a hard time deciding on a pattern for her. I start one and then find another one I like better, so I start that. I really must make a decision!

I Did the Best I Could

I recently had a very bad week, a week where nothing went right, nothing seemed to get accomplished, nothing felt good. I was beating myself up over it, since I am without a doubt my own worst critic. I was definitely deep in the blues. One of my professors saw that I was unhappy and she gave me some very good advice. She told me that even when I have a bad week...bad day....bad moment...to remember that I did the best I could at that moment in time. I lean toward being a perfectionist and I disappoint myself more often than not. So I loved my professor's advice. I did the best I could at that moment in time!

My poor little owl Paisley is lost somewhere in the Deep South. She left the owlery with the kit for my spoilee on July 6 and STILL hasn't arrived. He's been sent on detours and back again; he's flying in circles and can't find my spoilee. If you see a very tired little owl carrying a big box looking totally exhausted and confused, please take him in and give him some TLC. He's beening flying for 17 days. Poor Paisley..............

My Kit Arrived!

I received the most wonderful kit from my spoiler, Catriona Lestrange. Upon opening the box I found one of the wonderful little trunks I have so admired. That was my first squeal of delight!

Upon opening the trunk I found wonderful Paton's Classic Wool Merino in blue and gray/silver and beautiful Ravenclaw stitchmarkers and matching bracelet. Squeal of delight #2! I'm a collector of stitchmarkers and these will make a perfect addition! Catriona gave me a pattern for a Fibonacci Felted Bag for which the yarn is intended. She also gave me the size 10 straight needles and size 10 circular needles needed for the bag. I can't wait to start it!! Now that I've discovered felting, it's all I want to do.

Digging further into the box I found a fantastic lined handmade bag. It's in a shaes-of-blue harlequin print and the lining is blue with stars. It has black leather straps and it such a perfect size. Catriona spoiled me even more with a matching needleholder, something I don't have and DEFINITELY need. Insert squeal!

Finally, there is a Wizardology book and notecards. Squeal!!! How could Catriona have known that I have eyed that Wizardology book for AGES? Did a little owl tell her?

I had a pretty quiet day today. It seems many 'Claws have not returned from their holiday weekend and my favorite professors were also absent. So I took advantage of the peace and quiet and got my kit all packaged up for Violet. Paisley had been well feed during the holidays so she was all ready to go. Just a Little Adventure...

The other night Lavender Ackerly, Emma Dumbledore, Agatha Ackerly and I decided to go on a late night adventure in the Forbidden Forest. Of course, I just had to lead the way. I'm all for adventures! Walking on the carpet of pine needles with a light breeze blowing through the trees reaching for the sky was exciting. I love the peaceful feel of the forest. We were really hoping to find a unicorn since Agatha had never seen one. Unfortunately a unicorn is NOT what we found! I thought I saw something metallic or shiny move out of the corner of my eye. When I said, "What's that?", I felt a hand grab the back of my robe. Lavender and I bravely moved in the direction of the movement with our wands ahead of us. As we got closer, I heard a strange sound as well...a sound I couldn't identify. About that time Emma and Agatha decided they "needed" to get back to the dorm and they quickly scurried back the way we came. Did that stop Lavender and me? Of course not!!

We soon saw something very large with an green striped arrow sticking out of it. We tiptoed forward wondering if this might be Grawp. As we slowly moved forward with our wands outstretched, I noticed lots of shiny, glowing pearl-like stones on the ground around us. Finally we were close enough to look up and saw a Hebridean Black dragon staring back at us with brilliant purple eyes. We cautiously approached it, keeping our eyes on the arrow-shaped spike on its tail. He spread his batlike wings and let out a cry as more "pearls" fell from his eyes. I'm sure he was one of Hagrid's pets who was hiding in the forest. While Lavender stayed with the dragon, humming a calming tune, I ran back to Hagrid's Hut. Poor Hagrid was extremely upset to discover that someone had injured his precious Scottie. We returned to find Lavender with the arrow in hand and Scottie looking at her with loving eyes. I guess our next adventure is to find out who shot an arrow at Scottie!

Movie Madness

Yesterday was a very quiet day for me. Both Professor Lufkin and Professor Townsend were involved in staff meeting all day in preparation for the end of another term at Hogwarts. So I found myself with nothing to do! Minee was preparing to go away for the weekend with her family and I haven't seen Luveday in days and days. I do hope she is still attending Hogwarts and that we didn't scare her away.

Anyway, since it was so quiet I decided to sneak off to the Muggle world where I saw 4 movies! Yes...4!! First I saw a very cute movie called Spiderwick, followed by an action picture called Jumper (not my favorite). Then it was The Kite Runner which I thoroughly enjoyed and must now read the book. Finally, last night I saw Wall*E, which is very entertaining. I recommend it to everyone. I was amazed how good a movie can be with almost no dialog.

In between all those movies, I managed to read a few chapters and to put the finishing touchs on the kit for my spoilee. I am hoping to get my little owl Paisley into action yet this weekend!

Holiday in Hogsmeade

Headmistress Wartbobble recently gave us permission to leave Hogswarts and visit Hogsmeade. I was so excited to get away for and spend time with my friends, both old and new. My sister Fleur, Minee and I tried hard to convince Luveday to come with us, but she is extremely quiet and so very shy; we couldn't talk her into joining us. She said she much preferred to spend the time in the quiet Common Room alone with her nose in a large stack of books and with her knitting. I really haven't had much of an opportunity to get to know Luveday because she is so quiet. Hopefully next time she will join us.

Fleur donned her best peacock colored robes, I grabbed my favorite purple, and Minee was a rainbow of flashing colors as we found our way to Hogsmeade. There were students and professors milling around everywhere, chattering and laughing. We first headed to The Three Broomsticks where we indulged in a few mugs of its delicious butterbeer. I hadn't seen Madam Rosmerta since the beginning of the term so it was fun to say hi. Naturally, it was packed wall to wall, but we managed to find a tiny table in the center of the room which we shared with some of the other prefects and head girls.

Next it was on to Scrivenshaft's where I picked up some new quills and parchment. I suppose at some point I should attempt to do some homework! Fleur, of course, had to have peacock feather quills. I hate to admit it, but they are spectacular!

I said goodbye to my friends and then wandered off on my own. I just happened to accidently run into Professor Lufkin standing in front of The Hog's Head. He was most definitely fascinated by the hanging sign on the front of the pub with the severed boar's head and the leaking blood. He invited me to join him in one of the private rooms on the upper floor of the pub. Of course, we discussed DADA.....

I finally had to excuse myself so I could make a stop at Gladrags Wizardwear to see the latest in quirky merchandise. I found the most magnificent socks that undulated in purple and silver which I just had to have. I also found a new shimmering purple robe that found its way into my bag.

By that time I was definitely in need of refreshment so I wandered over to Madam Puddifoot's tea shop. Imagine my surprise when I discovered visiting Professor Townsend in a quiet corner. He invited me to join him and he bought me a lovely cup of tea in a lavender cup. I had to giggle when violet petals and confetti began to shower our table thanks to the floating golden cherubs. What a enchanting change of pace.

It was then time to start the trip back to Hogwarts. Professor Townsend offered to accompany me. On the way we stopped at Honeydukes Sweetshop where Professor Townsend bought me some honey-colored toffees and lavender flavored nougat.

Sigh...what a wonderful day. I hope we get another Hogsmeade weekend soon!

My oldest child had just gotten married. My middle child had just graduated high school so I was in the midst of college prep for him. My daughter was getting ready to start her last year of high school so I was taking her for senior photos, voice lessons, choir practice,etc. Both were playing summer traveling soccer so I was spending lots of time on the road going to soccer games. My time during all the things in the Mom job description were coming to an end and I was looking forward to having time to do the things I wanted to do, rather than spending all my time seeing to the needs of my kids. My Week Away

Last week a Muggle friend visited from Canada. She had never been to a wizarding school so I had a great time showing her around Hogwarts, Hogsmeade and Diagon Alley. It was a exciting week, even if we didn't get much sleep. Unfortunately Professor Lufkin was busy with DADA classes (right? He was there, right?) so he couldn't join us. I showed Amelie around Ravenclaw Tower, the Great Hall, and the grounds of Hogwarts before heading to Diagon Alley and major shopping. She was constantly panicking when the staircases moved, jumping when a portrait talked to her, and grabbing my arm in a death grip when one of the ghosts floated overhead. How different our wizarding world must seem to a Muggle!

While relaxing one evening in the Crystal Cave, a wonderful purple drink arrived at our table. I searched the interior of the pub, but all the tables in the dim candle-lit room were occupied and everyone seemed to be in quiet conversation. I couldn't figure out who had sent the drink. It was a lovely lavender flavored drink with lots of lilac colored sugar crystals on the rim. Soooo delicious! When a second drink arrived, I just had to know who had sent it. The waitress tilted her head in the direction of the far corner and indicated a very interesting mysterious man sitting alone. He smiled and nodded his head. My Muggle friend's jaw dropped. She tried to stop me but, being the friendly person I am, I immediately got up, walked to his table and introduced myself. Meet McGuiness Townsend, a visiting professor of History of Magic from Salem Witches' Institute in the United States. He is visiting Hogwarts to lecture in his very unique manner. History being my favorite subject, I can't wait to attend his lectures! There will definitely be no sleeping in class and I will be in the front row!

Chaos Rules

Last evening I returned to my dorm from the infirmary feeling a wee bit better, but still with a pounding sinus headache. All I wanted to do was cuddle up in my bed with my cushy pillows and velvet purple comforter. I climbed the stairs slowly trying not to jostle my head too much. I pushed the heavy door open, stepped inside, and my eyes flew open so fast I thought my head would explode! There was Minee surrounded by cauldrons (I think I saw mine there) and fibers galore. Every color of the rainbow was splashed on the walls, floors, trunks, bedding! She was standing in the middle of the circle of cauldrons with her wand orchestrating a dance of the fibers. I was totally speechless! The fibers were hopping from cauldron to cauldron, sloshing colors everywhere as they flew. Poor Luveday was cowering in the corner wide-eyed. She must have been wondering if everyday at Hogwarts is so full of activity! I do have to admit, Minee is quite enthusiastic about her potions! (And the results are fabulous!)

Oh Woe Is Me

It hasn't been a good week for me around Ravenclaw House. I hope I haven't made any of my roommates upset. Spring around Hogwarts has brought not only fragant, colorful flowers, but too much pollen for my wee being. I have been spending lots of time with Madam Pomfrey trying to deal with allergies and now a possible sinus infection. At least I have Emma Wigworthy there to keep me company. She has such a wonderful bedside manner. The hot compresses have been wonderful, and she can make the most soothing cups of hot tea.

I've left Ravenclaw in the capable hands of Minerva Kwikspell. I know she's doing her job well because she even delivered my homework to me! I'm suffering incredibly and she wants me to do homework! She even stood over me while I did it! My answer to the House Quiz is:

The World of Wisteria

I guess it's about time I completed this week's homework assignment, isn't it? I am Wisteria Lovegoods (obviously). Everyone returning to Ravenclaw House will remember my sister, Fleur, who was Ravenclaw Prefect last term. I'm sure you've seen her wandering around Hogwarts. If not, just follow the trail of peacock feathers! I have a few other sisters, namely Lilac, Pansy, Violet, Heather, Iris, and Hyacinth, some of them have already graduated Hogwarts and some are still waiting for their invitations. This term Minee, Fleur and I have a new roommate, Luveday. I sure hope she can find her way through the maze of Fleur's peacock feathers. Just follow the fragrant aromas of all the Konfections that are delivered to Minee!!

The Lovegood family comes from the village of Dergotop, which is about 10 km south of the enchanted Moors of Neere. I really miss the misty mornings on the Moors but I do NOT miss Fleur's peacocks! So I surround myself with all the shades of purple I can find to remind me of the heather covered hills near our home. Mum tried to teach us how to make amulets and fill them with our native flora to protect us on the moors. But, unfortunately, herbology is NOT my strong suit and my attempts at protection amulets and potions mostly fail. ::sigh:: I may need to learn other forms of protection.

Like Fleur, I enjoy Tarot readings and other forms of divination, which WAS my favorite class at Hogwarts until the arrival of our new DADA professor. I am definitely spending lots of time volunteering to assist him and acquaint him with all the ins and outs of Hogwarts! Maybe he can teach me things that my mother wasn't able to teach me! It is a good thing to know how to defend ones self from the dark arts, right?

My family has always has always been involved with the magical manipulation of fibers. My great-grandmother, Agatha Wigworthy, was such an experience weaver, spinner and knitter that she ws able to knit a spell into the socks of the evil Umgubula Slashkilters and saved our ancestral estate. My family's shop, Lovegoods Fabulous Fibers, is well known for producing all the charmed knits you will ever desire, as well as the beautiful fibers for individual use. It's always fun to go into the shop and see all the looms busily kicking out a blur of yards and yards of fabrics, hear the steady hum of the spinning wheels spinning out magical fibers in flashing colors, and listen to the clicking of all the glistening needles knitting scarves, hats, gloves, sweaters and robes in Hogwarts colors. Please drop in to Lovegoods when you're in Diagon Alley. Mum will gladly take your orders for custom dyed fibers.

Well, I see it's about time to check in on our new Professor. He really does get hopelessly lost sometimes...

My First Official Assignment of the Term

I got a call from Headmistress Wartbobble over the weekend. I was not very happy about being given an assignment the weekend before the start of the term, particularly when it entailed showing the new Defense Against the Dark Arts professor around Hogwarts. After all, I had purple pillows and rugs to put in the Common Room! But I grudgingly agreed to do it and took him to the dungeons. Wouldn't you know it, we got lost! It took me hours and hours to find my way out, jumping into the arms of Professor Lufkin every time one of the Hogwarts ghosts appeared. (Thank you, Nick!) It was an unpleasant assignment...but someone had to do it. The sacrifices I make for Hogwarts!!! Next I may have to show him around the grounds. There are some beautiful secluded spots..................
